Creative Activism Through Art
The Rising Up Collective is a creative activism project that uses art as a way to process the world, spark conversation, and encourage collective care. Inspired by history, literature, and current events, each piece is created to remind us that even small actions can create meaningful change.
As part of this work, 20% of proceeds from every piece are donated to organizations whose missions align with the values reflected in the art, helping ensure that these stories don’t just inspire — they actively support the change they call for.

Art for Change
Art, to me, is about curiosity, courage, and connection — and sometimes about trying new materials, new ideas, or even questionable food combinations. I’m grateful you’re here.
Hi, I’m Allison Weeks Thomas — artist, illustrator, and the human behind The Rising Up Collective.
I earned my BA in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and my Master’s in Illustration Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Currently, I work primarily in digital media (which is what much of this collection is created in), though I love exploring all art materials — to the point that some might call me an art supply hoarder. I prefer to think of it as being a collector.
The Rising Up Collective grew out of a desire to turn overwhelm, grief, and frustration into something actionable. I believe art can hold space for hard conversations while still offering hope, connection, and a sense of community. Much of this work honors people, ideas, and movements that remind us how powerful small acts can be — especially when we choose to show up for one another.
When I’m not creating, I’m usually:
- Hanging out with my kiddos and a few beloved furbabies
- Reading (often several books at once). At the time of publsihing, I am reading Anne of Green Gables, The Separation of Church and Hate by John Fugelsang, and Liz Moore’s The God of the Woods.
- Trying to spend time in nature — despite an entirely unfounded but very real fear of bears that makes hiking… complicated
- Playing board games with my family (currently very into Everdell)
- Thinking about tacos or peanut butter (not together… but I’m open to experimentation)
I’ve also recently fallen in love with oil pastels, and I’m having a lot of fun getting messy and learning something new — which I might share more of down the road.
Thank you for being here and for supporting art with purpose.
Together, we make big change.
